Project Description:
Inspired by the theory of layering to add structural strength. Layers of wood are sandwiched around stamped steel to create a robust frame and legs. The steel creates a thin line segmenting the wood and adding a decorative element.

Project Description:
Entirely made of only four parts, this stool is industrialized minimalism at its best. A cast iron base and solid wood top give a nod to genuine and honest materials, giving this piece its simplistic charm.

Project Description:
Extending from the series of forms that came from the Lodi chair, I used the same principle material to create a robust desk that has a light-on-it's-feet appearance. Influenced by bridge and construction design, the lines the base creates give this piece a very striking geometric pose.

Project Description:
The Kast light is reminiscent of lamps from the turn of the century but certainly from this era. A simple, utilitarian aesthetic is what gives this lighting unit its charm, no frills here. The cord is held in place against the stamp steel neck via small tabs that are welded in place. A cast iron base insures the heavy glass shade will not topple the piece over.

The Venus sunglasses are one of the last projects I worked on while at Nooka Inc. Under the direction of founder Matthew Waldman I worked, alongside Alexander Yoo our production manager, from initial concept stages through to final production. It is an amazing process to see something go from sketch to mass-production.

Project Description:
It started with a question of material; how to make a strong, elegant, minimal and long lasting chair from square steel tubing. Make it comfortable and inviting but keep it clean and classy. I wanted to explore the shape of a short-back, smaller sized chair. The result became Lodi, a versatile side piece that works well at a counter or table, perfect for casual dining and light work.

Project Description:
This was a project I worked on with the creative team at Nooka Inc., alongside Alexander Yoo & Yumi Asai, and directed by Matthew Waldman. I worked from concept development to final production, which is always time intensive and very rewarding to see. The concept of the watch stems from many of Nooka's iconic timepieces and the philosophy that drives this innovative company. Universal communication, more than anything, is where Matthew focuses his energy and design skills. The watch is truly an asymmetrical design, allowing the user to wear comfortably on either wrist. The display is programmed to change according to which side the user decides to wear it. The packaging was a unique part of the project which was a partnership with SiliconeZone, a manufacturer of kitchen and house-ware products. The outer silicone shell is meant to be re-useable as a food/microwave safe sealable container to help keep packaging out of the landfill.

You can buy the Zayu (and other great products) from the Nooka online store or from their retailers around the world!

Project Description:
This credenza became an exploration of creating more interaction to and otherwise very stationary and mindless object. The pattern of holes on the top create a multiple locations to place a carefully wired lamp. Only three holes contained the low voltage current to light the lamp, in other words the user is has to move the lamp from hole to hole to actually turn the lamp on and off. Constructed of FCS certified solid white oak with laminate doors, the credenza packs flat for ease of shipping.
