Project Description:
The Venus sunglasses are one of the last projects I worked on while at Nooka Inc. Under the direction of founder Matthew Waldman I worked, alongside Alexander Yoo our production manager, from initial concept stages through to final production. It is an amazing process to see something go from sketch to mass-production.

You can purchase the Venus sunglasses here!

Project Description:
This idea was born from a simple napkin sketch and later turned into a full-on concept project. The premise is quite simple: make a satellite phone that has a bit of class, is simple to assemble, and is rugged enough to take a beating time after time.
Most satellite phones on the market are ugly, quite clunky and expensive (though they appear to be cheaper). WIth a little simplification and a bit of class the FR1 looks the look and walks the walk. It has no bells and whistles, just function. The exterior of the phone has a purposeful aluminum band that helps guard the case of the phone from side and corner cracks, something very prevalent with satellite and cellular phones.
As far as interface, the FR1 is stripped down to its bare essentials. A large but well protected E-ink display delivers information for calls and connections. An E-ink display allows for outstanding battery life and has outstanding durability characteristics. The entire phone is meant to be easily dis-assembled for repairs, making it easy to upgrade and keep up with new hardware tweaks.

Project Description:
This credenza became an exploration of creating more interaction to an otherwise very stationary and mindless object. The pattern of holes on the top create a multiple locations to place a carefully wired lamp. Only three holes contained the low voltage current to light the lamp, in other words the user must move the lamp from hole to hole to actually turn the lamp on and off. Constructed of FCS certified solid white oak with laminate doors, the credenza packs flat for ease of shipping.

Project Description:
This table was an exploration of color, texture and the juxtaposition of several materials that normally do not sit next to each other at face value. The use of mdf, masonite and neoprene hard foam carefully inlayed next to rich walnut creates a strange combination not often seen. The shape questions the normal rectangular or circular shape of most large tables and asks the users to partake in a social experiment of sorts. It creates more intimate contact between users, forcing them to share the space between one another.

As with everything I fabricate, there is a strong sense of craftsmanship and care in the fabrication of these pieces. Something I feel is very important in developing skill over time with patience.

Project Description:
This was a project I worked on alongside David Ehrenstråhle under creative director Matthew Waldman of Nooka Inc. The initial concept was a watch with easily interchangeable straps that can be mixed and matched to allow the user to customize color and styles. ABS case with polyurethane strap with Nooka's famous Zoo face.

Project Description:
Inspired by the theory of layering to add structural strength. Layers of wood are sandwiched around stamped steel to create a robust frame and legs. The steel creates a thin line segmenting the wood and adding a decorative element.
